The energy from the October Harvest and Hunter’s Moon was powerful. There were two Full Moons in one month and one of them was on Halloween! This energy gave us the opportunity to dream big and tie up loose ends. For many, it was also a chance to reconnect with the spiritual world. With the culmination of all this energy, it is time for this energy to shift and wane. In November, the energy is calming down as we approach winter.
November is the transition point between fall and the winter season. The surrounding environment is decaying, animals are preparing for hibernation and snow is falling. In November, the full moon is known as the “Beaver Moon” to represent this changing season. The beaver is used as a symbol for this transition point because these creatures are busy preparing for this upcoming change of season. They develop thick coats, build lodges and store food for winter. Traditionally, the Beaver Moon was also the time for fur traders to trap beavers because beavers provided many resources and sustenance. Their fur was waterproof and thick and was used for winter clothes. The meat produced was a significant source of protein, and their fat could make oils. Other names of the November Full Moon include the “Frost Moon,” “Freezing Moon,” “Digging (or Scratching) Moon,” “Snow moon,” or “Dark Moon.” These moon names reflect the season of winter and the changes it will bring.
As winter approaches, now is the time to start to finish any projects that are pending because as the month progresses, our energy requires us to set different priorities. It is a time to save our resources and energy. During this time we can prepare for the next year that is ahead, but it would serve us better to take this time for reflection and rest. When we take the time to rest, it gives us the chance to heal. Taking the time to heal helps us restore our energy and mind so that we are prepared for the next year’s adventures that await. The holiday season that is ahead requires a lot of energy and resources, but it is also a time for release, self-reflection and rest. As November ends with this full moon, it is important to have quiet moments for yourself so you can re-energize, look within, and expand our horizon.
Like the beaver, in November we want to prepare in advance for the winter season. There is dwindling energy, so we want to finish up any projects that are left and wind down for the season. As winter draws nearer, it is a time for reflection, rest and silence.
