A cup of green tea to make DIY toner on bamboo table.
Green tea has amazing skincare benefits!

As I have gotten older, I have not only become more minimalist but also on a budget. One area in my life that I have vastly downgraded is my beauty products. I am usually on a tight budget every month and beauty products can really add up. Some products are EXPENSIVE. I am always looking for budget friendly products. Don’t get me wrong yo’ girl loves a good pampering moment with luscious feel good smell good products but they weigh heavy on my wallet and heart.

There are certain products I have switched over to more economical friendly versions. In my hunt to save money, I discovered that toner is one of those products you can make! Yay! There are tons of recipes online for different skin types! The options are endless if you have specific skin issues you want to address. I like to make things simple for myself and find that making a DIY green tea toner is simple and cost effective. Green tea also has so many amazing benefits for the skin.

Scientific studies have shown that green tea applied topically on the skin can help improve many skin issues. Green tea’s inflammatory, microbial, and moisturizing properties help with acne, sebum production, irritation and facial redness. The antioxidants in green tea help with anti-aging and repairing the skin. It also has protective properties that help repair UV sun damaged skin. Too much sun exposure increases the chance of skin cancers, so preventative measures are key! Sunscreen and green tea please!
With so many benefits, there are a lot of products on the market that contain green tea ingredients. I love to use them, but lately I have been using the recipe below.

DIY Green Tea Toner

Materials

  • Green tea bag or 1 teaspoon of loose green tea leaves
  • 8 oz distilled water or filtered water
  • Clean spray bottle
  • (optional) Small funnel

Directions

  1. Boil 8 oz of distilled or filtered water. Tap water can dry the skin as it contains chlorine, and in some areas there are high levels of hard water.
  2. Pour boiling water over a tea bag. If using loose tea, give it a stir.
  3. Let steep for a minimum of 10-15 mins. You can steep longer, as longer is better!
  4. Once the hot tea has cooled transfer to a small clean spray bottle. I like to use an old face spray bottle that I cleaned out. I also use a small funnel to transfer the tea to prevent making a mess. If using loose tea strain first and then transfer.
  5. Keep in the refrigerator. Feels really refreshing and helps prolong the spray. Lasts up to two weeks in the fridge.
  6. Spray as needed! Makes an excellent toner but also a nice makeup refreshing spray.

This spray is easy to make in a pinch and budget friendly. You can also add other beneficial ingredients to fit your needs and skin type to make a custom blend!
