February Snow Moon: The Moon to Nurture Your Energy

Winter forest with snow moon

The energy for February is like the coldness and isolation of January. As we continue to transition from the colder months, we can use this time to make improvements in our lives. Let us look at what the month of February offers!

The full moon in February is called the “Snow Moon,” “Storm Moon,” or the “Hunger Moon.” In the past, the amount of snowfall and other mid winter conditions caused scarce food sources in February. The conditions were often harsh, bleak and cold, and people faced many challenges as they waited for the warmer months. Like others in the past, we too can endure the challenges that confront our lives in the later winter months. In February, we still feel winter making its presence known. The coldness still lingers in the air, and in some areas the snow falls the heaviest. We can still feel winter, and we may feel at our lowest energy levels. This time of year often feels harsh, both internally and externally.

The weather can have us emotionally and energetically drained. Although the weather is still not at its best, there is still an opportunity to make progress. We can use this time to nurture our mind and bodies as the momentum of the season picks up. We can focus on doing more self-care activities to cultivate ourselves towards more productive and positive changes. We can then make plans for the upcoming months to help us get through this last bit of winter. As winter is ending, the urge to purge is also very real. The month of February is based on the ancient Februalia and Februa. In ancient times, this was a time to perform purification rites. Since this month is traditionally a time of cleansing and cleaning, don’t fight it, tosh it!

February Full Moon in Leo

During the Snow Moon in February, the full moon will be in the sign of Leo. Leo’s energy is fiery, expressive, and playful. When the Moon is in Leo, there is a powerful urge to express our feelings with others. The sign of Leo craves attention and when the moon is in this sign, we may feel insecure if we can’t express our feelings or socialize with others. We also might feel a little detached or isolated right now. Be careful not to stir drama for the sake of attention. It’s ok to feel and want validation, but it is more important to focus on introspection and expressing our feelings through other channels.

The fiery energy of Leo also urges us to seek our desires and passions. For some, this might mean romance. For others, this might mean it is time to focus on activities that spark passion and creativity. The Leo moon is also a great time for brainstorming and planning, as Leo is a sign of ideas and expression. This full moon would be a great time to think about your goals and plans for the year. Leo is also one of the signs that excels in leadership. With the moon in Leo, tap into your creativity and leadership skills to get things rolling.

This full moon in Leo is a good time to leave behind fears that are holding you back. The energy of Leo is associated with courage, strength, and confidence. These qualities of Leo under the full moon can help us strike up the courage to push past these fears. Leo is a very proud and intense sign, and this intensity can give us the push we need to conquer our fears. Fear can take us to dark places, but Leo has a light within that shines outward. We, too, can look for this inner light to shine through our darkest days. The Leo full moon encourages us to look past our fear and doubt and look within for our soul’s purpose.

This February, the Leo moon will also fall under the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius’ energy strives to better humanity, while Leo wants to be the star of the show. Although these energies conflict, the energy of Leo is very creative and compassionate. Leo’s compassion, passion and leadership skills can supplement Aquarius’ need to help the collective. This month we can also tap into the energy of Leo and Aquarius to do things that benefit the whole. We might need a little guidance or help, but when pointed in the right direction, we can do great things for all.
